Commemoration of Eid al-Adha – US Embassy in Egypt
ANTONY J. BLINKEN, EXTERNAL SECRETARY
JUNE 27, 2023
On behalf of the United States, I wish Muslims at home and around the world a blessed Eid al-Adha.
For those who celebrate, Eid al-Adha is a powerful reminder of the communal obligation to care for one another. As Muslims around the world gather to commemorate the family of Ibraham, Hajar and their son’s relationship with God through the rituals of Eid and Hajj, we are reminded of the diversity of Islam and its call for equality and compassion for all .
During this time of celebration, fellowship and worship, Muslims from all walks of life are putting aside personal priorities to help those in need. We are aware that this year many Muslims around the world are celebrating in the face of serious humanitarian crises and political unrest. Tragically, some must celebrate alone, in secret, or under oppression. The United States is committed to the human rights of all people everywhere, including the right to freedom of religion or belief and freedom of expression.
We wish a Hajj Mabroor to the Muslims who make their holy pilgrimage to Mecca. May this special holiday be a celebration of togetherness and dedication to service. Eid Mubarak.
