Known as a vibrant and dynamic Mediterranean island, Ibiza is home to not only breathtaking landscapes, but also a rich culture and energetic nightlife, which combine to offer a unique offering that appeals to tourists from all over the world. And for those wanting to experience the quieter, more sophisticated side of Ibiza, there are few better places than Marsol Apartments in Santa de Ellaria, just 20 minutes’ drive from the airport.

The welcome

We arrived at Ibiza airport on a fairly late flight and with security to go through and a rental car to collect, our arrival at Marsol Apartments was going to be even later. Fortunately, we were able to check in ourselves through the reception who communicated with us via WhatsApp. A physical key was left in an undisclosed location for us to collect, and we were also given two electronic keys (using the Assa Abloy – Hospitality Mobile Access app). Both worked great and we were warmly welcomed at reception the next morning as we completed the check-in process.

The room

We stayed in apartment 1B – a ground floor family apartment opposite reception, with a private terrace. As we entered, to the left was the main sleeping area with a double bed and a super-sized LG TV.

Just beyond that was a bathroom (more on that below) before the apartment opened onto a larger living space with a kitchenette, sofa bed and desk. Beyond that was the terrace.

The apartments themselves are spacious, modern and equipped with all the necessary amenities to ensure a comfortable stay, providing a great base for exploring the island.

Although the beach is only steps away, having your own little private space outside is an added bonus.

The bathroom

Our apartment included a compact bathroom with rain shower, sink and toilet. Fluffy towels are provided and there is a heated mirror and a shaving mirror.

There are Hierbas de Ibiza toiletries, a collection of luxurious and fragrant products that incorporate the essence of the island’s native herbs, such as thyme, lavender and rosemary.

The facilities

As Marsol Apartments come complete with a kitchenette and are close to a supermarket, you are very self-contained and have everything you need to cater for your own needs should you wish. At the same time, however, you find yourself among a number of restaurants and bars that it would be a shame not to sample.

Next door, the Marriott’s Hotel Riomar – a Tribute Portfolio Hotel – has the Ocean Brasserie which offers an all day menu for relaxed beachside dining.

Standout entrees include the Toro tuna tartare with avocado, cantaloupe melon, nori, rice, and delicate wasabi pearls, as well as the super green salad with avocado, edamame, kale, asparagus, lemon, and mint vinaigrette.

To keep it healthy, I opted for the delicious grilled sea bass with green beans, juicy cherry tomatoes, red pesto and a touch of fragrant basil oil.

Our desserts included the lemon meringue pie and a rather indulgent Riomar cheesecake with Balearic cheese and redcurrant marmalade.

There is also a swimming pool with sun loungers at Hotel Riomar where you can buy a day pass for a very reasonable 60 Euros as it includes a 40 Euro credit which can be used towards food and drinks served at the Ocean Brasserie.

The same daily menu is available at lunchtime. We recommend sharing the exquisite Iberian ham as a starter, served with a crisp sourdough spread smothered in a rich and flavorful tomato garnish.

For the perfect lunchtime snack, enjoy the mouth-watering chicken Milano chicken sandwich – a delicious creation that combines juicy chicken with the perfect mix of coleslaw, juicy tomato, spicy mustard and crispy French fries.

Normally there would be free wifi in all Marsol apartments. Unfortunately, this did not work during our stay, but we were able to use the wifi of the adjacent restaurant KOBU by UM.

Rent

Marsol Apartments enjoy a fantastic location just 20 meters from Santa Eularia Beach. This location also offers easy access to many of Ibiza’s good selection of restaurants and bars, without the hustle and bustle you will experience in the livelier parts of Ibiza.

For us this was a huge bonus, not least because our eldest son was competing in the World Aquathlon Championships (a one kilometer swim followed by a 5km run and part of the World Triathlon Multisport Championships) and the start of his race happened to be from the stretch of beach right outside Marsol Apartments!

I’m pleased to report that he placed 5th in the world in the age group 19 and under, and was the 1st placed GBR, meaning he automatically qualifies for next year’s World Championships taking place in Australia…maybe yet a trip we can plan!

Other nice keys

One of the nice things about Marsol Apartments is that this is a serviced accommodation, so the staff will come and make your room for you every day if you wish. If you want more privacy, you can also just leave a hanger on your door to say you’re okay.

The best bit

Perhaps the best thing about Marsol Apartments is the location. Unlike other parts of Ibiza known for their party lifestyle, Santa Eularia des Riu exudes a laid-back and sophisticated vibe. With its pristine sandy beaches, charming promenade and lively marina, the town offers a perfect mix of relaxation and entertainment. The atmosphere is welcoming and low-key, attracting visitors who appreciate a more low-key and family-friendly experience compared to the bustling nightlife of other parts of the island. The picturesque waterfront, lined with trendy cafes and restaurants, creates a stylish and cosmopolitan atmosphere.

The final verdict

Marsol Apartments offers guests clean, airy and modern accommodation that is perfect for families or couples looking for a little more space. The inclusion of a kitchenette is a great addition for rustling up a quick snack and the superb beachfront location, in a part of Ibiza more sophisticated than most, is the icing on the cake.
