18th NATO Annual Conference on Arms Control, Disarmament and Non-Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction
The United States and NATO are co-hosting the 18th Annual NATO Conference on Arms Control, Disarmament and Non-Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) April 17-20, 2023 in Washington, DC
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman will make remarks and participate in a question-and-answer session with in-person participants at the conference’s opening session on April 18. Only the opening session will be streamed live on the US State Department’s website youtube . The conference will be chaired by US Undersecretary for Arms Control and International Security Bonnie Jenkins and will not be open to the public.
The conference will also precede a high-level civil society public event in partnership with Howard University’s Ralph J. Bunche International Affairs Center to discuss evolving challenges in arms control, disarmament, non-proliferation and other areas of global security and build ideas a safer world. Since 2004, the annual NATO Conference on Arms Control, Disarmament and Non-Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction has been organized by NATO with an Ally as co-host to provide senior national officials with an opportunity for informal discussion of WMD threats. The 18th Annual Conference will be held in North America for the first time and will include approximately 175 participants from over 50 NATO Allies, invitees, partners and international organizations.
