Foreign Minister Discusses Successive Regional Developments in Gaza and Syria with Canadian Counterpart

Dr. Badr Abdel Aati, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, met today, Thursday, with Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly, on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting on Syria held in Paris.

Ambassador Tamim Khalaf, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the meeting addressed the overall bilateral relations between the two countries, where Minister Abdel Aati praised the historical relations that link Egypt and Canada, highlighting the aspects of cooperation between the two countries in various fields, and stressed Egypt’s aspiration to deepen the bonds of these relations and build on them to move towards broader horizons in the economic, political and cultural fields. In this regard, he indicated Egypt’s aspiration to hold the twelfth round of political consultations between the two countries next April.

The two sides also exchanged views on the successive regional developments in Gaza and Syria. Minister Abdel Aati reviewed the determinants of Egypt’s position on these developments, most notably the Palestinian issue and Egypt’s tireless efforts to implement the ceasefire agreement, provide humanitarian aid, and look forward to starting the early recovery and reconstruction process.

The meeting witnessed an exchange of views on the developments in Syria, where Minister Abdel Aati stressed the need to respect the unity and integrity of Syrian territory, the importance of starting a political process that does not exclude any components of Syrian society, and for Syria to be a source of stability in the region.
