The Grand Theater of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Fustat hosted a cultural and artistic ceremony titled “Searching for the Egyptian Soul,” featuring a mix of Egyptian and Spanish dance art. The event was organized in collaboration with the Spanish Embassy in Cairo. It was attended by public figures, celebrities, former ministers, and ambassadors from foreign countries in Cairo, as well as art, music, and heritage enthusiasts.
Dr. Ahmed Ghoneim, CEO of the Museum Authority, opened the ceremony with a welcoming speech, expressing his happiness to host and organize such cultural events that the museum is keen to host as part of its cultural and artistic program during the 2023 season. He emphasized the museum’s role as a cultural, community, and educational institution that aims to raise cultural and archaeological awareness, improve artistic taste, and introduce the Egyptian people to the various cultures of other peoples. Dr. Ghoneim also highlighted the historical and cultural ties between Egypt and Spain, thanking the Spanish Cultural Center for its continuous cooperation in supporting the museum’s great cultural and artistic role.
HE. ALVARO IRANZO GUTIÉRREZ – Ambassador of Spain in Cairo, expressed his appreciation for the effort made in the event, emphasizing the importance of this fruitful cooperation between the museum and the embassy to bring this celebration to light in a way that befits the fact that the museum is one of the most important cultural projects in the world.
The ceremony witnessed performances by the Spanish band Dani Pannollo and young artists from the Tarab Institute, who presented a wonderful artistic performance entitled “Search for the Egyptian Spirit,” embodying Al-Nadaha, a fictional character from Egyptian folklore, produced by Tarab Group for Performing Arts. The show was a mix of Egyptian and Spanish folklore and won the audience’s admiration.
In related news, Dr. Ahmed Ghoneim and Ambassador Sasho Podelsnik, Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia in Cairo, inaugurated an art exhibition titled “The Return of the Goddess Isis” by the Slovenian artist and sculptor Bostian Kavcic, one of the most important contemporary sculptors in Slovenia, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Cairo. The exhibition, which runs until May 12, includes a group of works of art by the sculptor, inspired by the ancient Egyptian civilization as modern art and the idea of the return of the goddess Isis, expressing the resurrection and revival of the Egyptian spirit and identity.
Dr. Ahmed Ghoneim emphasized that such activities come within the framework of the various activities that the museum is keen to organize continuously in cooperation with embassies and diplomatic bodies in Egypt, as it aims to achieve cultural exchange between Egyptians and other peoples and introduce visitors to the ancient civilization of Egypt and its antiquities, which always fascinates the world.
