The European Day of Languages in Egypt is an exciting celebration of linguistic diversity and cultural exchange, aimed at fostering stronger ties between Egypt and Europe. Scheduled for September 26th at the Cervantes Institute in Cairo (Spanish Cultural Center), this event brings together embassies and cultural institutes from across Europe to showcase the importance of language in connecting cultures.

Celebrated since 2001, the European Day of Languages has been a cornerstone event across Europe, highlighting the richness of linguistic diversity. This year, 11 European countries have come together to celebrate this day in Egypt, aligning with the European Union’s motto: “Unity in Diversity.”

The event aims to raise awareness about the wide array of languages spoken across Europe and the role of multilingualism in promoting cultural dialogue and mutual understanding. It also emphasizes the personal and professional benefits of learning new languages.

Interactive Learning and Multilingual Fun

The European Day of Languages in Egypt offers an engaging and interactive program designed for all ages. High school students will have the chance to experience “Grade Zero” language lessons at the Cervantes Institute, introducing them to the basics of European languages. This hands-on experience could serve as a stepping stone for their future language studies.

In addition to classroom lessons, various cultural stations representing European countries will host competitions, games, and activities. The popular “Get to Know Europe” competition will challenge participants to recognize Arabic words in European languages, fostering a fun learning environment.

Poetry Recitations and Cultural Performances

One of the event’s highlights is a poetry recital featuring four poets from the Czech Republic and four Egyptian poets. The audience will participate by voting on their favorite performances, adding an interactive element to the cultural experience. The evening promises a vibrant mix of poetry, art, and cross-cultural appreciation, all hosted by Shaza Mahram.
