Spanish Ambassador Highlights Spain’s Role
Spain will play a prominent role as the guest of honor at the 8th International Caricature Forum in Egypt. This announcement was made by Spanish Ambassador Mr. Álvaro Iranzo, who emphasized the significance of this participation. The event will take place at Cairo’s Mahmoud Mokhtar Museum from August 12 to 22, 2024, bringing together top caricature artists from across the globe.
Honoring Two Iconic Actors: Samir Ghanem and José Luis López Vázquez**
The festival will pay tribute to two legendary actors: Egypt’s Samir Ghanem and Spain’s José Luis López Vázquez. In their honor, Spanish and Egyptian caricature artists have crafted unique artistic caricatures, which will be on display throughout the festival.
**Special Appearance by Renowned Spanish Artist David Vela**
One of the highlights of the forum will be the participation of the esteemed Spanish satirical artist David Vela. Born in Zaragoza in 1967, Vela is celebrated for his intricate drawings, expressive colors, and precision in conveying ideas. With a Ph.D. in Spanish Philology, Vela’s dissertation focused on the famous Spanish caricaturist Salvador Bartolozzi. Supported by the Spanish Embassy in Egypt, Vela will attend the festival’s opening on August 12 and will lead a workshop for young Egyptian artists interested in caricature art.
**A Historic Connection Between Spain and Egypt in Caricature**
The connection between Spain and Egypt in the world of caricature dates back to 1908, with the arrival of Spanish caricaturist Joan Sintes Blasco in Egypt. Sintes Blasco lived in Egypt until his death in 1945, leaving a lasting impact on the caricature scene in the country.
**Organizers and Coordinators of the Forum**
The 8th International Caricature Forum is organized by the Egyptian Caricature Association, under the leadership of renowned artist Mostafa El Sheikh. The event is coordinated by the acclaimed Egyptian caricaturist Fawzy Morsi.
